29.07.2023 - Arignar Anna Zoological Park

The Department of Periodontics, Tagore Dental College enthusiastically celebrates Oral Hygiene Day every year with a vision to extensively spread the importance of oral hygiene amoung the public.

The vibrant team consists of Dr.B.Bhuvaneswari, Prof & HOD, Dr.T.Parthasaradhi, Dr.Juala Catherine, Dr.Mugil, Dr.Indumathi and Dr.P.Sathyashri.

The mission this year was to provide awareness and enlighten the public on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene.

Keeping the above mission in mind we organized an awareness program and flash mob at Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai on 29/07/2023, Saturday. The above location was selected since the foot fall in zoological park during weekends can even reach to over 3000.

The flash mob consisted of dance and skit in regional language, which portrayed the importance of tooth brushing. 6 sessions of the flash mob was performed from 10.30 AM to 2 PM reaching atleast 80% of those visiting the zoological park. Pamphlets explaining various methods to maintain oral hygiene were also distributed to the public.


01/08/23 – Awareness Camp in Pathway Rehabilitation Centre

Apart from fulfilling the mission of Oral Hygiene Day of reaching more than 3000 persons, we also catered to a miniscule of the society consisting of children with special needs at Pathway Rehabilitation Centre, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. This Rehabilitation Centre incepted in 1975, houses around 250 children with various special needs including physical, mental and behavioral disabilities. An informative talk was given to around 70 caretakers regarding oral hygiene maintenance for the special children. A skit was performed by the CRRIs enacting the importance of oral hygiene for the children with special needs and the caretakers were given hands-on training on brushing technique. Toothbrushing technique was taught to few special children with 3-dimensional tooth models and toothbrush.

Toothbrush and toothpaste was distributed to the caretakers and to the special children.
