The department of Public Health Dentistry thrives to expand in scope & complexity with more emphasis towards a comprehensive dental care delivery & its impact on the oral health status of the people living in the underserved areas. Also, it focuses on enabling the dental students to be aware of their responsibilities towards the community by carrying out numerous preventive and public health services to the rural groups.
The Anti-Tobacco Cessation Clinic (TCC) is a component among current activities of Department of Public Health Dentistry. The TCC began offering services in 2016 as a pilot project and has since expanded into an ongoing program.
The mobile dental van is a dental hospital on wheels; it serves to provide dental care at door steps for people from remote villages and to sections of society with inadequate access to dental care.
Our department has a well equipped mobile dental van as a part of community service commitment, which is used for outreach programmes especially for underprivileged people, mentally retarded, physically handicapped, orphan children and elderly people.
Our dental van is well-equipped with reclining dental chair, suction motor and compressor connected to a portable generator. In addition it has emergency equipment like oxygen cylinder, pulse-oximeter and emergency drugs.

Patients are treated on a daily basis which includes OPD and other dental procedures on minimum cost.
Fluoride is a natural mineral that builds strong teeth and prevents cavities. It’s been an essential oral health treatment for decades. Fluoride is especially helpful if you’re at high risk of developing dental caries, or cavities.
We at our department regularly treat children’s who are at high risk of developing dental caries with fluoride application.
Our department has a full-fledged dental museum, where patients are educated on regular basis and various dental models, charts and audiovisual aids were utilized for health education and motivational activity.
Oral health education is referred to as the process of provision of the oral health information in such a way to the people that they apply the principles daily to everyday living. Oral health education helps to develop desirable dental health attitude and habits. It teaches reliable dental health information to people and helps to maintain oral hygiene.
Thus each and every patient coming to our department receives oral health education at end of their treatment.
She has graduated from Adiparasakthi Dental College in 2011 under Tamil nadu DR.MGR Medical University and completed her masters in the department of Public Health Dentistry at MeenakshiAmmal Dental College, MAHER, Chennai in 2015.She is working as a reader in the department of Public Health Dentistry at Tagore Dental College from November 2019. She has experience in guiding Post graduate studies and actively participating in various Under Graduate activities. She has won many awards for the paper presentations in various national conferences. She has many publications in various indexed and peer reviewed national and international journals. She has done various studies among differently abled children. She has attended various workshops and well versed in conducting Tobacco Cessation Counselling. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in MAHER University and her topic of interest is ayurveda and oral health.
She completed her under graduation from Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, Bharath University Chennai and received Master of Dental Surgery in Public Health Dentistry from Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be) University. She had also done Postgraduate diploma in Bioethics and Medical Ethics from Yenepoya Dental College and Post graduate diploma in Biostatistics from Madurai Kamarajar University. She has been elected as the head of CDH in Indian Dental Association, MM nagar, Chennai in 2022. She had been working in the department public health dentistry as senior lecturer with an academic experience for more than 2 years. She had done major contribution in the field of ethics, biostatistics, public health, tobacco control and epidemiology. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Bharath University Chennai.
Dr. Pallavi Ammu Thomas currently had have completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Indhira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University, Pondicherry and received Master of Dental Surgery in the Department of Public Health Dentistry from Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya Deemed to be University, Mangalore. She had also successfully completed Post Graduate Diploma in Bio-ethics and Medical Ethics from Yenepoya deemed to be University. Currently working as a Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Health Dentistry. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Bharath University Chennai.
Completed Under graduation at SreeBalaji Dental College and Hospital, Chennai in the year 2015. He worked for various dental clinic for 5 years and currently with 5 year of working experience in this institution. He also manages the periphery clinic of our institution stationed Sadhanandhapuram, Kancheepuram District.
