Oral Medicine and Radiology is the specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and medical management of complex diagnostic and medical disorders affecting the mouth and jaws and the Radiology part of the subject equips the budding dentists in the field of diagnosis using conventional and advanced imaging methods. It is the first department where the patient is received. Their elaborate history is studied thorough examination and investigations that aid in arriving at a proper diagnosis.

Our clinical services majorly involves the diagnosis, medical management and follow up care for patients presenting with -

• Orofacial and Neurological pain, including temporomandibular disorders (TMD)
• STAFF Mucosal diseases
• STUDENT Oral cancer and complications of cancer therapy
• Dental care for patients with disabilities
• Neurosensory and motor disorders
• Salivary dysfunction
• Oral complications of systemic illnesses
• Craniofacial imaging and other diagnostics
• Oral Health Education

The Department of Radiology goes hand in hand with Oral Medicine providing well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including Radiovisiography (RVG), Dental X-ray units and Digital Panoramic imaging machine. Facilities for Orthopantamogram, Lateral Cephalographs, Intra Oral Periapical radiograph and Occlusal Radiograph are available for the patient.

Technically well qualified Radiographer ensures that high quality radiographs are made with the least exposure possible.

Dr. V.Saranya of 2012 batch received the university Gold medal.

UNIQUE FEATURES

The Department's Doctors, Clinical Assistants, CRRI, Radiographer and Students are trained for Patient-Friendly hospital environment. The Patients are received with warmth and listened of their history with patience and empathetic attitude.

• We focus and believe in establishing a Conducive Team environment that welcomes and opens forum for healthy discussions, knowledge sharing and Collaborative learning for all. The Students and CRRI discuss their case reports with Faculty and case reports and treatment procedures are discussed and validated as a team.
• Unique Cases are presented and discussed in the end of all the clinical hours which enables knowledge sharing and deeper learning for the students as well as faculties.
• CRRI's are trained for giving intralesional injection for oral lesions.
• CRRI's are trained in CBCT interpretation and diagnosis.
• Systematic training is given in conventional and digital radiographic techniques and interpretation of the dental lesions.
• Our Collaborative Team, works together with the Students on Exam perspective too. We conduct Mock Tests before the exams for all the students and offer extra guidance to required and interested students for good ranks in University exams.
• The Department strives to address the dental problems in the society and actively pursue Research in various topics.

UNIQUE TEACHING METHODOLOGY

At the Department of Oral Medicine and radiology, we believe in creating Learner Center Environment for our students where we focus on active learning, cooperative learning and Inductive learning.

The interactive lecturers empower the undergraduates with the necessary knowledge background for oral diseases, oral radiology, oral oncology, therapeutics and nutritional supplement, and advanced dental care for patients with systemic illness.

Chair-side discussion is a routine practice to inculcate clinical knowledge, communication skill, and professional ethics.

Group discussions are conducted for case discussion, to impart critical analysis and problem-solving abilities.

Problem Solving Teaching Techniques are used where students are given Disease Scenarios and asked to submit a detailed case reports on cause and effects and treatment process and recovery process of the case.
